Q: What is Computer Science (CSC)?
A: Computer science is a technology-oriented discipline whose fundamental principles combine theory, abstraction and design. More information on what computer science is and the mission of this department can be found on our Mission Statement page.

Q: What do CSC graduates do?
A: Many careers in computer science involve development of computer software. Development activities include analysis of customer needs, design of the software, programming of the software, quality testing, documentation, and project management. Entry level jobs involve mostly programming and testing. The career path then leads to analysis, design and management opportunities.  If you'd like to learn more about the daily lives of people whose education is in computer science, visit the Crossroads magazine "A Day in the Life of. . ." page.

Q: What companies do CSC graduates work for?
A: Companies like IBM, Cerner, Southwestern Bell, and Sprint frequently recruit employees from our campus. Visit our Employment page for more information.

Q: Where is the department located?
A: The CSC department is located in Cheek Hall room 203C.

Q: How do I donate to the CSC department?

Q: How do I contact someone in the CSC department?
A: We have a list of most of the members of the CSC department on our People page. If you can't find them there, please feel free to send an email to the CSC department, and we'll do what we can to help you locate them.

Q: What is the difference between CSC 101 and CIS 101?
A: There is no difference in the content of the CSC 101 and the CIS 101 classes. These classes are part of the General Education Requirements for the University, and are taught according to standards set forth by Missouri State.

Q: Can I take a waiver exam in lieu of CSC 101?
A: Yes. You can meet the Computers For Learning (CFL) general education requirement by taking a waiver exam. You can register for the CFL waiver exam online. For more information, see the CFL Waiver Exam web page.

Q: What are "Computer Ethics?"
A: Computer Ethics refers to the behavior and attitudes displayed by people with regards to computers and how they are used. You can find our more on our Computer Ethics page.
